What's Baby-Led Posing and How Do I Book?

What is ‘Lifestyle’ /Natural Baby-Led Newborn Photography?

Have I told you that I love newborn photography? I love to capture their newness, their perfection just as they are.

More traditional or posed newborn photography uses props and prefers to photograph your baby within the first 10 days from birth so they’re nice and sleepy, they can then easily manoeuvre your baby into various poses.

‘Lifestyle’ or baby-led photography is more natural, letting your baby take the lead asleep or awake. I’ll tell you where to stand or sit in the best possible light and photograph each family member with the baby. Baby led means that I watch for those little movements, yawns and stretches that are so unique to them. It’s all about capturing the emotions and family connection that you have for your little bundle of joy.

How do I go about booking a Newborn photo shoot when I don’t know when the baby will arrive?

When you’re preparing for the arrival of your baby, a great time to book your session is in the 2nd trimester. I pencil your due date in my diary and leave room around that date for your newborn session. All you have to do is contact me once the baby is born and we then lock in the actual date and time.

If you’ve had your baby and decided last minute to have a newborn shoot, please contact me as I can always try and schedule you in. Consider too a maternity shoot around the 32 week stage of your pregnancy. You might not feel like it but it’s definitely worth having those memories of this wonderous time!

Which would you prefer Studio Newborn Photography or In Home Newborn Photography?

I have a lovely and warm studio here at my home in Highett or if it’s easier, as I totally understand how hard those first few weeks are, I can come to you.

This lovely couple have just welcomed a baby boy into their family and was photographed in the comfort of their home. Congratulations he’s adorable!
