The Tween stage (8 - 12) isn’t usually a time that people feel is important to photograph their child. This awkward in-between stage is the last time they’ll curl up on your lap for a cuddle or the last time they come to you for advice. Before you know it they’re hiding in their rooms with a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on the door and have the attitude that my parents don’t understand me or know what I’m going through!!
This is a great time to help boost their self-esteem before those difficult Teenage years start. They’re probably already experiencing peer group pressure, lack of self-esteem about their looks, and trying to find their own unique voice with their online presence.
I was so thrilled when Karina phoned me to organise a fine art photo shoot for her 12 year old daughter. Isla had so much fun trying on different outfits (from my collection) and we soon worked out that her style is “Boho”. What a natural beauty she is.
Winter down at the beach is a great time for a photo shoot as the light is soft and beautiful. It’s also relatively secluded so your Tween won’t feel embarrassed having lots of people watching. Usually there’s a exquisite sunset too!
