The beauty with the way I photograph babies is that it doesn’t matter what age they are. All babies have their own unique personalities (yes even newborns) and it’s those tiny expressions that I love to photograph. This little bubba is 2.5 months old and look at those big expressive brown eyes!
At 2-3 months your baby will now understand your voice as they are now forming a strong attachment to you. Babies at this age will be able to follow you with their eyes and smile at you. They will start to follow toys or blocks moving above their head. Their neck will be getting stronger all the time, during tummy time they might be lifting their head and moving it from side to side. Some babies can even lift their chest off the ground by now and rolling over is a possibility.
They might seem to be more fussy and cry more than usual which is a normal part of their development. This usually peaks at around 6 - 8 weeks and starts to settle down at around 12-16 weeks. Their cries will start to change, they’ll have a particular cry for when they’re in pain and a different sounding cry for when they’re hungry. They’ll also start to show their discomfort with body language, i.e. pushing their feet upwards when they have tummy pain or wind.
As their muscles develop, their arms and legs start to move more freely, stretching out to make them seem taller and leaner. Their hands will probably be open most of the time and they enjoy opening and shutting them. They might even be able to grab your face or grab a necklace you’re wearing.
So don’t worry if you’ve missed those first couple of weeks since their birth because of lockdown to have photos taken, it doesn’t matter how old they are, it’s their personalities that I aim to capture.
