The Little Things You’ll Miss About Your Baby Being This Small!

There’s something about having a newborn that makes you want to slow time down. You know they won’t stay this tiny forever, but when you’re in the middle of those long nights, endless feeds and sleepy cuddles, it can be hard to imagine just how quickly these days will pass. One day, you’ll suddenly realise that your baby no longer fits so perfectly into the crook of your arm and it’s often the little things you’ll miss the most.

The tiny fingers that wrapped themselves around yours.

The little feet that seemed impossibly small.

The soft rolls of their legs and arms.

The way their whole body curled up against your chest.

That newborn smell.

The sleepy stretches after a feed.

The tiny noises they made while sleeping.

The way they rested their head on your shoulder.

The little frown they made when they were dreaming.

These are the moments that can feel ordinary when you're living them, but become incredibly precious with time.

You'll miss how little they were in your arms

As parents, we're often so busy caring for our newborn that we don't realise we're creating memories with every cuddle, every feed and every sleepy moment. You might not remember exactly what you were thinking as you held them at 2am, but you'll remember how tiny they felt.

You'll remember the weight of them in your arms.

You'll remember their little hand resting against your chest and you'll wish, just for a moment, that you could hold them that small again.

The photos become more important with time

When your baby is little, it's easy to think you'll remember everything, but babies change so quickly. Their tiny features change. Their hands and feet grow. Their little expressions become different. Before you know it, you're looking at an older baby wondering where those first few weeks went.

That's why I believe newborn photography doesn't need to be about elaborate poses or creating something that doesn't feel like your baby. For me, it's about capturing the real moments.

The tiny details.

The connection.

The way your baby fits into your family.

The way you look at them.

The way they look at you.

The little things that make your baby your baby.

You don't need to wait for the "perfect" moment

Your baby might not sleep through their session. They might need a feed. They might want to be cuddled. They might cry and that's completely okay.

My newborn photography sessions are relaxed and baby-led. I don't believe your baby needs to be perfectly posed or perfectly asleep for us to create beautiful photographs. Some of my favourite images are the ones that simply happen.

A tiny hand reaching for Mum.

Dad holding his newborn close.

A sibling gently looking at their new baby brother or sister.

A sleepy baby curled up naturally.

A little yawn.

A wrinkly forehead.

A tiny foot tucked underneath them.

These are the moments that tell your story.

they really won't be this little forever

One day, those tiny hands will be holding your hand as they walk. Those little feet will be running around the house. The newborn cuddles will become toddler cuddles, and eventually you'll look back at these photographs and remember just how incredibly small they once were. That's the beautiful thing about photography. It allows you to hold onto a moment that your hands can't.

So while you're busy loving, feeding, cuddling and getting to know your new baby, don't forget to stop for a moment and take it all in.

The little fingers.

The tiny toes.

The sleepy cuddles.

The beautiful chaos.

The connection.

These are the things you'll miss and these are the things you'll want to remember.

As a Bayside Melbourne newborn photographer, this is what I love most about what I do, it’s capturing the real connection between you and your baby and preserving those fleeting moments before they disappear. Your baby won't stay this small forever, but these memories can.
