It's such a delight when I meet new clients who are expecting their first child and overjoyed with the prospect of being parents.  Tim and Yuri found each other in South America and decided to raise their baby in Tim's home town of Melbourne.

Yuri has precious heirlooms that had strong significance to her, which we used during the shoot.  It really makes the session so personal when you can use items that you have such a strong attachment too.

Can't wait to meet your new, little bub!

The Wonder of Motherhood!

It's an amazing thing, almost a surreal time in a woman's life when she's expecting.  To feel your baby's movement and knowing that a new life is growing inside of you can't be compared.   To celebrate her third pregnancy and maybe her last, Marnie called me to photograph her.  You make a beautiful mother Marnie and both your girls will be gorgeous big sisters.

Mum and Dad to be!

Hello!

These maternity photos turned out so beautifully. As I was editing all the preview photos for this blog post, I kept getting more and more excited with how they all turned out.

I met up with Kristie & Simon at their home and the poor things are in the process of moving house!  Good on you Simon for your patience with me asking you to move furniture.  I bet you didn't expect to break up the couch this soon before the actual move.  It's amazing how you can photograph in minimal space, just give me a blank, painted wall.

Kristie was just glowing.  This little bub is so much anticipated!    I can't wait to meet this little angel in December.

Why Maternity Photos are Important!

The Importance of Maternity Photos

Being pregnant can bring a lot of difficult trials but it's an amazing time in your life.  It is a time of anticipation as you prepare to meet your little bundle of joy. It’s a time where you become strong – stronger than you ever thought you could possibly be. During this time, you create your initial bond with your child that will continue throughout your entire lives.

There are very few women who actually feel like they are beautiful while they are pregnant – especially during the first pregnancy. However, the miracle of pregnancy is a beautiful thing. Swollen feet, stretch marks, and hormone changes aside – you are growing a real live human being inside of you. All of those side effects come from different things your body has to do to help nourish and protect your baby.

You are beautiful, and you should take the time to celebrate these changes and this amazing moment in your life. These photos will be a great gift to pass down to your child as an heirloom of your first memories with them. This is something they can treasure forever.

I usually aim to take photos around the 32 week mark.  I know what it feels like when your pregnant, conscious of your changing body shape but I photograph you in the most flattering poses.

To celebrate Spring and new life, book a newborn session and receive a FREE maternity session.

Forget to print your photos?

FORGET TO PRINT YOUR PHOTOS???

I’ve always loved photography going way back to using 35mm film.  Remember when you were young and film was developed at the Chemist or local photo shop and how excited we were to pick up your photos and look at a printed photo?  We couldn’t wait to put them in our photo albums and even now, how much we love looking back at our photos and the memories they share?  The computer just doesn’t have the same effect.  I believe photos you hold in your hands are so much more valuable than digital versions.

I’m just as bad, I keep telling myself that I must print my personal photos that are stuck on my hard drive on my computer.  It’s so easy to think I must get around to it but the more you put off having them printed, they accumulate and it becomes a momentous task!

The digital age is here.  The ability to share your photos with family all over the world is amazing.  The scary part is that hard drives aren’t reliable and have parts that eventually fail, so what next?  Technology is always changing and the devices that we use now will probably be redundant in years to come.  Photographs gain value over time so it’s imperative that we print our photos now to make sure that we’ll have them to show for future generations.

See the following article:  http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment31450389?utm_content=buffera2eb0&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=buffer

I include prints in every package I offer.  I’m all inclusive right now, so everyone gets digital photos on a USB drive, as well as 6 x 4” fine art archival prints of their selected photos.  Archival paper is referred to as ‘Museum grade’, made of cotton and highly resistant to ageing and deterioration over time.  Archival paper is acid free and lignin free, in other words the paper is less likely to yellow and deteriorate.  Of course I also offer larger print sizes, fine art and coffee albums and mount boards all printed on archival photo paper.

Digital images are wonderful for sharing online but having a tangible print in a beautiful album is an heirloom to be handed down through the generations.

The anticipation...

"Mother is the home we come from."  Erich Fromm

It's such a precious time when you're pregnant ... that little blessing in our bellies, the anticipation of who this little person will be, imagining what it will be like to hold your baby for the first time.

It's Been a Wonderful Year

To all the precious newborns, babies, children, and families that I've photographed during 2014, thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting me and helping me do what I love so much.   Cheers to 2015!

An Exciting Time.....

The arrival of your first child is full of anticipation and wonder...wonder at what you'll be like as parents and how your lives will be changed forever.  This gorgeous couple will make beautiful parents as I know how much they've been waiting for this little bundle of joy!
