"It's the first day of autumn! A time of hot chocolatey mornings, and toasty marshmallow evenings, and, best of all, leaping into leaves!" Winnie the Pooh - Pooh’s Grand Adventure
I love Autumn, the orange and red hued leaves, the crisp air, the crunch when your feet walk upon the fallen leaves, and the sky looks bluer somehow. Take advantage of this stunning time of the year with a family photo shoot or a Tween/Teen portrait session. Those Autumn colours are just magnificent and the light is so beautiful, perfect for portrait photography.
What time of the day is best for a photo shoot?
As the sun is lower in the sky, I recommend the Golden Hour, the hour just after sunrise or the hour before sunset. This light is so flattering for skin tones. Consider the time of day that’s going to best suit all members of your family and adjust nap time for young children if you need to. Always have snacks on the ready to ensure everyone is well fed and happy.
Best Location?
From experience, outdoor family photo shoots keep the members of your family occupied as there’s always something to do, plus if you have little ones to wrangle, they’ll thrive outdoors as I keep them moving. There are some magical locations around Melbourne that show Autumn in all it’s glory from parks to the Dandenong Ranges, you might have a magical tree in your own back yard that we could use as well.
WHAT TO WEAR?
I’ll work with you to coordinate outfits for your shoot. As the weather is cooler you’ll need to rug up. Textured jumpers and tops look brilliant in photos. Keep to neutral colours if you can that complement other family members rather than compete with each other. I’d also wear layers particularly a jacket which can be removed if it gets warm.
